I'm into music, my brother pwns at acoustic/electric and I though i'd have a go. I got awesome marks on my report so my dad is getting me whatever I like, & I [)on't want it to be too expensive.

A agrbage, second hand Pawn Shop bass will go for around 80-160 dollars.
The thrill in playing a game does not come from our chances of winning. It is the weight and pressure of losing that fuels our fascination. It is why people challenge, why they gamble and why they compete. The adrenaline that comes from defying defeat is what motivates us.

^yeah
A cheap bass would be below $200 at least.

You could always add things to the bass, fix it up.

Also, learn electric instead of bass, then, if you find out that you hate fingerpicking, you won't have wasted your money.

Its really not that hard to convert from guitar to bass, all you really have to do is get used to the weight, and understand that bass doesnt have EBGDAE as C standard.

But its much more difficult to do in the opposite order.
