Pokemon Tournaments
« on: January 29, 2010, 01:51:56 AM »
If this has not already been priorly explored, I believe it should. I think in certain cities, islands, places, that there should be tournaments held (i.e similar a 64-man bracket tournament) and have winners with different prizes awarded. But have like multiple levels of tournaments and exp. should be gained. (Examples: >lvl 10, >lvl 25, >40, >50, and so on and so on tournaments) I think it would help with the overall game, fun level of the game, and bring more competitive spirited people drawn to the game!!

It's been discussed but they haven't went deep into it yet as far as I know. We only know that there will be multiple types of tournaments. It hasn't been confirmed if the tournaments will be daily, weekly, or monthly.

This has been discussed already and the reason it's not deeply discussed is because we don't know the in's and out's yet. All we know is that there will be tournaments but that's it.

So do I. Back in the day I created a website for Unreal Tournament 2003/2004 ladders and tournaments. So I know everything about calculating scores and creating dynamic brackets etc.. ;) Thanks for the offer tho.

Dunno if it'll help... but i have an idea on how to make points...

how about doing it like the style of tennis?? :)

each battle wins gives you points, like 10 points per win.
So highest person points will be seed one, and so on.

Also, for a tournament,
we can schedule a top 128 or just 64 seeded person :D

Tournaments will also have points... example:
64 -> 32 : winners will get +20 points
32 -> 16 : winners will get +30 points
16 -> 8 : winners will get +50 points
8 -> 4 : winners will get +70 points
4 -> 2 : winners will get +90 points
2 -> champion : champion will get +100 points

therefore, champion will get 360 points :D

but... there's also a catch:
Seeded will have an increased point level, like if I defeat the seeded 1 person, i will get instead of just 10, maybe 50 points

its just an idea... :D

Why make it so complicated? The end result is the same anyway.
Keep it simple. Nuff said

Simple is definitely the best way to run a tournament. I have experience with tournaments and I have been affected by them before. It was very unorganized and the people tried to make it to intricate so I ended up being at the tournament for at least 5 hours. If the PU devs decide to make a tournament then only the people who came in first second and third should get points. This will be much easier and also, people who cant win any battles shouldn't be able to get points.

So.......

-Keep it simple
-Only award points to top 3 (or 8 like in fencing)
-don't allow to many people to join (it might get very confusing)

Because theres a strategy to it? Just like any gambling game, it's all about numbers.

If tournaments was based on total points instead of a battle royal than this idea is really useful.

Also..what if the position you're in determines your opponent?(higher seed fight lower seed example..out of 10 people, 1st seed fights 10th seed, 2nd fight 9th and so on) This is why point system comes in handy.

Yeah :D

That's one of the idea that comes along with the point system :)

that's how some tournaments are planned on who fights who.

for a round of 64, 1 vs. 64 , 2 vs. 63 etc. :D

But the more complicated part is the placement of each match. (because the 2nd seed shouldn't fight the first seed early in the tournament)

Like putting them into 4 seperate groups. :D like
1,5,9,13 etc. for Group A
2,6,10,14 etc. for Group B
3,7,11,15 etc. for Group C
4,8,12,16 etc. for Group D

winner of each group will be fighting in the semis to the finals etc.

And since this is for the top 64( or 32) we can call it the " Champion's Tournament "  ;D

I agree with some of the others, brackets always seemed to work perfectly fine for me.

Either way I'm sure they'll be an in game NPC who keeps track of everything eventually :P
