[Pokedex Entry] Scyther for Roloc
« on: March 15, 2014, 01:05:46 PM »
Pokemon #123, Scyther, Bug/Flying type, Mantis pokemon.

Intro: Scyther is a very popular pokemon, that is often compared to a ninja thanks to its speed and agility. Scyther is a human-sized insect pokemon, with sharp blades instead of hands. It’s overall physical build resembles a human, but it is green and white, with a pronounced jaw, a somewhat triangular head with three pointed protrusions on top, a green egg-shaped abdomen to which its legs are connected and two thin wings on its back. Its limbs all consist from separate segments, mostly spherical and green, apart from its three-clawed feet, which are very foot-shaped.

Habitat: Scyther is a rare pokemon that lives in tropical climates, but may also be found in coastal areas with tall grass.
In the Kanto and Johto regions, Scyther is not a native pokemon, but can be found in the Safari zone and national park. Since Scyther is a popular pokemon, many of these businesses choose to import Scyther in order to attract trainers. Scyther and Pinsir actively vie for the same living spaces, so enterprises have to make the choice to house either one, but never both, in the same areas.

Diet: Scyther is a powerful and fast pokemon that resides at the top of the food chain. It will devour small animals, birds and other insects after it has caught and killed it. It will also eat berries and other fruits sometimes, and may shift its diet entirely to herbivory when necessary.

Biology: Scyther has incredibly fast movements that may prevent it from being detected by the human eye. In battle, Scyther uses these moves to create afterimages and confuse the opponent. Scyther is very proud of its speed and often knocks over things and pokemon in its path without stopping. If it is hit or disturbed by something while on the move, it will throw a tantrum and slash around before flying off. This behaviour also makes it very difficult to catch Scyther, since it does not have the patience to stick around very long.
Scyther has the ability to use Swords Dance, which it does by spinning around its entire body very quickly. Some trainers have taught their Scyther to generate currents of air with this move, blowing away fire-attacks that would otherwise severely damage Scyther. Continued use of this move leaves Scyther exhausted for a short while, but it will quickly recover and attack with increased power.
Scyther has a very light body and lithe wings. These wings allow it to fly short distances, but are unable to carry heavy weights. Due to this, Scyther is unable to fly trainers around.
Scyther is a pokemon that likes to show off its abilities to bystanders, often going the extra mile to make a battle worth viewing. This is more likely to happen if other strong pokemon are around.

Pokemon League Commission notes:
Class B: Catching Scyther in regulated environments such as the Safari Zone is often regulated by the organisation, which keep the populations at a healthy levels. Since Scyther is a very difficult to find and catch pokemon, the populations are often self-regulating, but if a trainer is catching too many Scyther, he or she may be asked to halt their activities and return some pokemon.
In their natural habitats, Scyther is often an attraction for many trainers, and local authorities will limit their catching, in order to ensure a healthy population and sustain the local Scyther-tourism.
