[Pokedex Entry] Voltorb
(1/1)
fuzzy3158:
Pokemon #100, Voltorb, Electric type, Ball pokemon.
Introduction: Voltorb is the pokemon that is known as the Boom-ball. It looks like a pokeball, with its perfectly spherical body, and red upper half and white lower half. It has two large eyes that almost always look angry.
Habitat: Voltorb is mostly found in power plants, and in patches of grass near power plants. They are also known to reproduce quickly in cities if the conditions are right.
Diet: Voltorb only needs electrical energy to sustain itself. It is able to consume pokefoods such as rare candies, pokeblock, poffins and others, although the manner of consumption is not understood, since Voltorb lacks a digestive track.
Biology: Voltorb is a pokemon that has a highly volatile personality and is easily angered. At the slightest bump or touch, it will discharge itself and electrocute bystanders, or selfdestruct or explode and cause serious harm to its surroundings. Voltorb’s temper makes it difficult to train, but it is known to warm up to people and other pokemon.
Voltorb does not reproduce naturally in the presence of trainers. Its reproductive system is shrouded in mystery, although there are indications that it reproduces after taking in enough electrical energy. Voltorb is constantly looking for energy, and will draw power from man-made structures such as railways, power plants, streetlights and others.
Voltorb is very similar to a pokeball. The discovery of this pokemon was very soon after the invention of the pokeball, which makes it likely that the two are connected. Since Voltorb’s parts are not found in nature, this is the most probable origin of Voltorb. It is hypothesized that Voltorb was created after a pokeball was supercharged under mysterious conditions. Voltorb is aware of its resemblance to pokeballs, and uses this to camouflage itself in its apparent natural environment, a pokeball factory.
The speed of the ball-shaped pokemon is legendary. Voltorb and its evolution Electrode are among the fastest pokemon in the pokemon kingdom. This is peculiar, since Voltorb only moves by rolling. After investigation, it was found that Voltorb lacks a balance organ. This allows it to roll around without getting nauseous, however, it makes it difficult for Voltorb to determine which side is up and which is down. It is not hindered by this during movement, however.
Many trainers have been frustrated by Voltorbs volatility. Due to its tendency to Selfdestruct at the slightest stimulant, Voltorb often ends up fainting, which then makes it impossible to catch the pokemon.
Although preference goes to Electrode, Voltorb has been used as a power source for machines. When fed or recharged regularly, and kept under non-stimulating conditions, Voltorb can be used as a eco-friendly power source. Care should be taken about overusing the pokemon as a power source, though, since this is harmful for the pokemon. This was discovered after investigation of Voltorb that were left behind in a abandoned Team Rocket hideout.
Pokemon League Commission notes:
Class D: The PLC’s guidelines on Voltorb are somewhat contradictory. On the one hand, Voltorb is considered a dangerous pokemon whose population should be controlled, since too many will cause great damage to their surroundings due to their random explosions.
On the other hand, the PLC warns trainers about engaging Voltorb due to said explosive nature.
In either case, catching of Voltorb is not restricted in any way.
