How about a list of Titles that'll go over/under the player's name for reaching certain criteria? Of course, only one would be available to use at a time.
[Title] Player's Name, or Player's Name [the Title]
Like:
Explorer: For Exploring X number of caves, forests, towns, ect.
Traveler: For taking X (something large) number of steps.
Pokemon Master: Self-explanatory
Breeder: Having X amount of eggs hatch from owned Pokemon. (This is rolling with the Daycare idea)
Pro Trainer: Completing X number of battles without losing once.
Pokemon Expert: Seen over X amount of Pokemon.
Collector: Caught over X amount of Pokemon.
Coordinator: Won X amount of Pokemon Contests. (Rolling with the Pokemon Contests Idea)
Eevee[Insert Pokemon] Maniac: Caught X number of Y Pokemon.
Socialite: Have X number of friends.
Etc.
Or have a group that you can only get after completing certain quests. The player could receive the Title from the quest giver, or get a message from Mom/Professor/Whatever about it.
-
would the title have any other benefits?
-
I thought of that actually, but wasn't sure if it would be fair. >.> I was mostly thinking just to make things more unique, but...
(hypothetically):
The Traveler Title could allowed the player to run faster than someone without it.
The Collector Title could seriously boost the the player's chances of catching a Pokemon with higher health/level, or with a weaker Pokeball.
The Pro Trainer could almost always insure the player the first move in a Pokemon Battle. Well, unless he/she was playing someone else with the Pro Trainer Title. ;)
-
In game, it would only be annoying in my opinion. You could have it in your profile, if there is one in game.
-
I like the idea.
though i think the requirements should be something that you have to really try for. not something that can be acquired right off the bat.
like maybe the amount needed be raised a bit more than regular.
I don't know if what i'm trying to say is clear to anyone..
-
I went back and looked at the pre-beta screen shots, and I honestly don't think it would work as well from the standpoint of being seen by others as they run around. It would clog up the screen horrendously unless you had names turned off.
On the subject of titles though; I've always loved the idea. It gives players something to work for, can be a really cool surprise, and it's customization. (Which everyone wants.) I don't think they should do anything to affect battle, though. That's something I don't think would turn out very well, and it would eschew balance in ways we couldn't predict.
Maybe have the titles in like a little player profile? Something like the in-game Pokdex show in the battle scenes. Such as, "Raikt, the Traveler." followed by my guild/organization/whatever being underneath of it, and then the rest of the trainer information.
They shoudl also be pretty hard / rare to get. Not insanely impossible, but only a few should be able to be gotten early on. Something like a teaser. I could probably come up with a few, if you want. :)

Why not just have a name status command ?
Example
Type
/status (message)
/status Breeder
Breeder
Chris
Then it would display your name aswell as a personal text that can easily be changed or put away, although this method is a bit more boring ...

would be easier but I rather earn my titles and bragg ;)

i like the idea, and there could be certain titles once you catch like 50 pokemon then, an upgraded title when you catch 100,200, 300 etc.
-
Title:
Trader
Trade Pokemon X number of times.
-
So, here are a few ideas for PvE:
Pokéthusiast -- Player has captured at least 30 Pokémon, been in at least 50 battles, and has made at least 10 trades with other players.
The Champion -- Player has defeated <Insert powerful trainer(s) here>.
The Noble -- I figured that if there was some form of <High end snobby place full of rich trainers> included at any point, they could get this from doing either a series of quests, or beating all the trainers, and it would accompany a set of "Noble" clothes they could wear.
The Trickster / Jokester / Jester -- Player has used the /Dance emote (Or a /silly, /etc., /etc.) more than 100 times.
A few PvP oriented titles:
The Scrub -- Won a single PvP battle against another player.
The Powerful -- The player has won 100 PvP battles.
The Mighty -- The player has won 200 PvP battles.
The Unstoppable -- The player has won 75 consecutive PvP battles.
The Invincible -- The player has won 100 consecutive PvP battles.
These are just a few suggestions, if anyone likes them. If not, give me some feedback. Criticism is always welcome.
-
Names like that sound cool and intresting. Im down with it all the way.
-
I like the idea of having titles in the game and I also like the suggestions of Raikt, the only thing, you chould order the numbers in a more fluent way.
For example, you go from 1 to 100 to 200. > it's better (my opinion) to make it 1-10-25-50-100-200 .....
Also, winning 75 consecutive battles is... impossible :P let alone 100 xD
Also, to add something. I have always loved achievements in mmo's or any kind of game. It would be great if it's implemented in PU. Yet again, that's my opninion ^^
-
Not really impossible if you know how to manage your battles :)
-
Not impossible, actually. The first reason they are so high is to stop people from boosting; the second would be because they have to be someone equal, or around, your own trainer level. Thirdly, I've actually managed 30 consecutive battles on my own going against some pretty tough opponents.
It's also supposed to be insane to obtain them. It gives people something to strive for end game. Not only that, but you don't earn "Raikt, the Immortal" so easy, now do you? :p
-
Ofcours it's supposed to be insane to obtain, but what I meant to say is that people (atleast I do and all of my friends do :P) like to see you progress to something. For example, you need 75 consecutive wins to get "Tetsuo, The unstoppable" so you have 74 wins and then you loose, your back at zero ofc.
But if you add a 'less cool' title at 50 he (the person) at least has that, you know what i'm trying to say here? :P
Just so the long run doesn't seem worthless and gets some people demotivated.
-
Well you could incorporate both things. On your profile you could have the titles you have earned. However the profile is the kind of thing you see off line frm the game you have to really search them out it would be accessed from the score list or something. THis profile would also have stats which would dhow if you have won 74 battles which is still an achievement.
Then maybe an in game thing such as clincking on a player or shown in a battle scene would be their trainer card on it it could have an emblem like a medal without the words to clog up the car say the catchin one would be a pokeball with stars around it for each level you get to i.e 1 for 50 2 for 100 etc.

How about this about the consecutive wins topic, I was wondering that having that put in a tournament of where people sign up to battle against the winner. And respectfully the entire pokemons are fully rested and restored before battle begins once again. As for spectators, I'm not sure if this part has been talked about because this would be nice to add and implant it to the game.
other than this, I don't think anything else to to keep people striving to beat the consecutive wins. This is my opinion anyways but I'd like a link if there's key phrase of "spectators".
-
Well, concerning spectators, the PU team originally said that it will not be implemented.

-
thanks Jerry. ^^
It's rather sad of no spectating but I do see the point. :)
-
Yes, I know... well, we can still record the battles and post them on You Tube :P though that's not very practical with the thousands of battles...
-
lawls.... but one thing I'd like to ask... is there going to be a text log showing all the moves used and dmgs and everything of that single battle?
-
Yes, on in your chatbox, all what happens will be showed.
For example:
Jerry's turn.
Chimchar used Scratch.
Starly used Growl.
What will Chimchar do?
...
You can see that in the screenshots :)
Those will not appear on other trainers' chatbox.
