Title: NPC assisted Doubles?
Post by: Athumaa on November 15, 2010, 01:22:30 AM
all i can find is threads on normal doubles battles. i was wondering if there will be quests in the game that would have an npc follow you around and battle other doubles npc trainers and wild pokemon. theres a part in Pokemon Platinum where you go through Eterna forest with an npc,, i just liked the idea of fighting 2 wild pokemon at once.

Have you played the new pokemon games? Because in them you can have a wild double battle by yourself. If the team is going to add that feature then you wouldn't need a npc.

Yeah when you go into the darker collered grass there is a chance to have a double battle with pokemon that are stronger than normal for that route, check out Serebii.net

The only problem with this idea is that the NPC would suck as a partner.

For instance, if you're on the final part of a quest and you're fighting a boss in a double battle with an NPC... there's a chance that NPC could make a hell load of wrong decisions and just lose the match for you.

I'd much rather just have a double battle with two of my own Pokémon and make all of the decisions I want to make than have an NPC screw up the entire battle for me (and even if I lose the battle by myself, at least then I can't blame anyone but myself... which would help me to improve my future strategies).

I dont think the NPC should follow. The doubles should just be when the NPC supposedly needs help or something like in emerald version when youre at Mossdeep City and Steven needs your help fighting team Magma at the space center.

Or instead of one specific battle, they follow you, but do not appear onscreen

i was thinking of it more from a leveling standpoint, seems to make leveling go crazy fast

Yeah no matter how much i hate npcs that is true.

I don't think anything should be put in the game specifically to make levelling go faster. Hitting level 100 should be an accomplishment, not a routine.

The thing i hate the most about the games is it is really hard to get there. there are almost no place where you can battle high lv pokemon, above lv 55.

yeah speaking of which does anyone know if they are puting in zone of lvl 55+ wild ? cus thats the retarded part grinding the one hits from about 65-100

There will be ways to get from level 1 to 100 with each Pokemon in an efficient and well planned manner. It will not be easy, but it's not going to be a grind fest like the actual games.

You're kidding, right? It was so easy to get to Lv. 100... well, you might be somewhat surprised that the pokemon in PU will need more EXP to level up.

thanks because that grind fest was kinda boring which defeated the purpose of playing the game haha.

its not that its hard in my opinion, but its just not fun once your in each games high level zone for hours just killing the same pokemon with one hit, just not exiting to me to run back and forth back and forth hit the same button twice, rinse and repeat.

Raise new pokemon and start over, without restarting the game of course and get all 493 pokes in level 100, without using EXP share and using the pokes you already brought to 100! :P

EDIT: Avoid double posting please :)

If you look in the "What is the best pokeball?" topic I say that I'm not a very patient person, I get bored very fast. It takes a lot to keep my attention. Maby if the leveling up process isn't as boring as it is in the games I might enjoy getting to LV 100 a bit more.

I would find levelling up too quickly more boring that levelling up too slowly...

What if in matters of hours, you get all the pokemon you can have to level 100? The game will end there, quests will probably be too easy, only tourneys will be worth it, maybe.

But hey, pokemon is first of all an adventure play. If there's no difficulty, there is no challenge.

For me, everything after level 100 is all i care about. I dont want the grind to 100 to be fun, i want it to be fast for me.

Oh? Okay... Well, for me, I enjoy seeing the exp bar being filled little by little, even if it takes a long time to fill completely, it's like a well deserved achievement.

As for past level 100, what do you usually do? I'm curious about that...

I too find leveling up to quickly boring but i don't like when it takes two hours to get from lv 89 to 90. what i want is a median point, some where in between.

Haha well nothing in the normal games, but im referring to this game. In my mind my pokemon will be incomplete and not ready to battle till they are all 100, and all i will care about in this game is doing the tournaments and battling at lvl 100.

Oh, yes, just like in all MMOs. You're not even ready to start playing the game until you've maxed out your character's level. Everything before that is just boing ol' grinding. Yup, no enjoyment there. Just bland leveling.

Ya what Jerry said. Score another win for you on the comebacks Domino....

Anyway i feel i havent expressed my plan for this game adequately enough in this thread so im going to go ahead and do that. At the time this game comes out, which im expecting sometime Q1 next year, i will be or soon to be fully immersed in SWTOR, which i have been anxiously waiting for for a long time. Keeping up with that game plus other games that come out plus college will leave me little time for this game, so unfortunately i wont be as active in it as i hope to be. My plan for this game is to log in a couple times each week and just strictly level my guys up, because i wont have time to get into it that much. So for me, im hoping for a fast grind, although haha my opinion doesnt really matter and i know posting this is pointless. I just wanted to clear it up

It's one thing if you were also proving a point with it, but this was just you trying to be a winner. Seriously.

not the point.

I dont care if youre Overpowering.

Assume your pokemon are all Lv 10, and other Pokemon, Wild Lvs 10-13/ Trainers Lvs 15-20.

Also assume NPC Tag Partner has 2 Pokemon Lv. 12-14
How do you think NPC Tag battles would work?
Title: Re: NPC assisted Doubles?

Well... sometimes, they do good things... I remember a battle with the Team Galactic on Spear Pillar where the rival (forgot his anime name...) used stockpile/spit up/swallow well and annoyed the opponent quite well.

I didn't like Barry that much, except for the anime. I kinda get the "Im better than you." Impression from him.

He wasn't any use in battles either.

Most likely cause my Infernape was overleveled for the whole game.

and everyone asks the same question...When the game will come out. I can understand the PU-team now for being frustrated in all those questions, which are basicly the same. And thinking they have to combine that with the development. I wouldn't have as much patience as them.

So, to the PU-team: sorry for getting on your nerves this much. We have lots of respect for you guys.

back on topic, i think they should remove the idea of an npc.... they should make a player help u for a small prize (like a little bit of money) because then u dont have to code the AI for the bot and u dont have the bot doing idiotic moves because players want to end the battles as quickly as possible to go back grinding.

just my oppinion.
