Title: What about an adoption center?
Post by: Janus on December 25, 2009, 02:33:07 AM
How about a place where a trainer can adopt a pokemon? the inventory of pokemon up for adoption changes every now and then so you never know what pokemon is there before you go into their playroom.  have anything that could improve this idea, please post it!

While the idea itself sounds kinda decent it doesn't really add anything extra to the game, except that lazy people can adopt Pokemon.

Also, it wasn't a really well thought out suggestion even though you got your point through, kinda.

The game-play mechanics of a Pokemon game pretty much say it'd be for lazy trainers, but in terms of making Pokemon make sense it is actually a very good idea.

But... I'm not in the crew of making it so I don't have any say other than that it could work out, just needs more depth than "letting you get a random Pokemon".

Maybe if you had to pay some money to the adoption center when you adopt it - kind of like the game corner prizes? Only you'd just pay money.

actually, i like this idea, it has some potential. it could be like an auction that anyone can participate in.

say for example i train a pokemon up to lvl 55 and don't really want it anymore for whatever reason
i go to the adoption center and drop off my pokemon, and say that i want $10 000 for it
someone then comes in looking at the center and finds my pokemon, turns out it was one they have been looking for, for some time now.
this trainer pays $10 000 and receives the pokemon i dropped off
i receive $10 000 (or some slightly lower amount) for the service.

this benefits all players in several ways.
1. the two trainers may never meet, and this way they are able to still connect with one another
2. the trainer who dropped off his pokemon gets a small amount of money, and no longer has to keep a pokemon locked up in one of his boxes and never use it again
3. the trainer who purchased it could end up with a pokemon he/she has been having trouble locating, and maybe even receives a higher level pokemon that will allow him/her to progress past a particularly difficult area

however, there should also be some restriction on the service. something like:
you have to have had the pokemon for 2 weeks, and level'd it at least 10 levels before being allowed to drop it off at the center
this would prevent people from developing a pokemon form of farming because no one is likely to purchase a low level pokemon from the center (especially if you place it a little ways into the game), so you are likely not to be able to sell a lvl 15 pidgey you just caught (since it's easy to level 10 levels later in the game), and people are actually going to have to work with what they got, and develop the pokemon rather than just catching and releasing

I am impressed with the comments so far, I like how some of the people expanded on my Idea, I know the original concept would be for lazy trainers, however with a little work it should be fine!

Sorry, but I don't think you can call 'adopt a pokemon' an idea  :-\
Those things Spirit posted are more like a concept and he is the one who worked it all out  :-X

A concept starts with but an idea, Dvys.

Really can't say it was ALL spirit - he didn't do it all by himself. Far as we know, without Janus' post, no one else would have thought of the idea.

Either way, the idea sounds pretty good to me. I likey. :{D

So.. If I say Pokemon MMORPG, and Mr. X is gonna make the whole game, I am still the one who started it all? The one who have the right to say that that Pokemon MMORPG is my work?  ;)

My point is; spirit made a whole system and my opinion about this category is that you need to have thought about your idea.
That's why I think that just writing 'Pokemon adoption' isn't an idea.

Believe me, I don't want to start an argue, I just gave my opinion :)

no, but you can say that you had the idea
and sometimes just having an idea is worth a lot
the mind is the most powerful and useful tool we have at our services

Ok, people back on-topic please. If you want to discuss this you're allowed to do that in the chat ;)

To not waste this post. The idea Spirit has also adds a new "role" in-game. If people are able to sell their Pokémon for money, then there will be people who will train Pokémon pure to sell them (who's to judge this is wrong?). I like it.

well how about an option for putting your pokemon up for auction. you would choose the starting price, and the length of time (2 day or so being max). then you could also put a buy out price. so for example you could have:

a starting price be $25,000 and a buy out of $100,000
-or-
a starting price be $25,000 and a buy out of $25,000 (this way the seller would get the money on the first bid)
-or-
a starting price be $25,000 and no buy out. then the auction would continue until the specified time expires.

then if an auction time expires with out any bids being made on the pokemon then the pokemon would be returned to the seller

There was a thread about that, I'm sure of it. However, I don't remember the title.

Oh, I just found it.

Answer from Mr_Dark:

The chat will have a special trade channel where you can ask for items or say the items you want to sell. You still have to go to each other to trade tho.

I guess this goes without saying, that it can be the same for pokemon.

As Jerry mentioned in the reply above.. my quote says it all..

I'll add this to the TUAT
