I always try to play balanced in the games, with 5 or 6 pokemon all being within 2-3 levels of each other. Most the time that makes me drasticly underleveled pokemon by the time I reach the Elite 4. My strongest Pokemon on Heartgold was only level 39 after I beat Lance.
Same but I don't find it a problem. If you've raised your 6 team equally and they've got good movesets I generally sweep the Elite 4 first time. That said I invest in quite a lot of revives, well 5 of every kind of medicine you can buy. Anyway my competitive lead is normally a dragon (So Dragonite or Salamance) because it can be taught a varied set of elemental attacks and very few pokemon (ice and rock-flying sub type) are super effective against it.

Don't do this^
I kind of presumed since it wasn't a discussion about what we'd like to see in the game there would be no problem with reviving an older thread. After all there are social boards on this forum to promote discussion so we can get to know each other better and this is a more social topic. Sorry if I'm wrong and I'll remember that in future.

I generally call my Kanga's Temujin and my Piplup's Napoleon. Kinda obvious why I guess!

I always hated having to take one of Pikachu's move spaces with flash but I think this was a very good alternitve: Suggestion: Maybe leave TM's and HM's alone, but your character learns the skill, not your pokemon.
To elaborate, instead of a bird pokemon learning to fly, and a water pokemon learning to swim, you character can learn how to ride flying pokemon, or a water pokemon.
It an be kept track of in a skills menu, like in the main menu.
Ex.
Flying Mount- This trainer can ride a pokemon which can fly. Surfing Mount- This traner can ride a pokemon which can swim. Lumberjack- This trainer can instruct a pokemon with sharp laws to cut down a tree. ...etc
Of course I agree there has to be some thought in to what Pokemon can be ridden, I mean the concept of a human riding a Pidgey is quite absurd but I can't see this being difficult to think through. Might be harder to program though?

I dont see a point in having companion characters in a pokemon game where traditionally you stick it out on your own. If you want people to help you in battle get a friend to do a double battle with you. Thats why its an MMO.
I agree with Viper, surely the whole point of joining an MMO is that any quests are done with friends?

When you have your first badge, you can of course go to the third gym, but there will the leader's pokémon be at level 30, so you are kind of supposed to follow the path.
And where exactly did you get this information? And these restrictions make the game practically unplayable unless you want challenge the gym leaders.
I always assumed we were scaling the gyms appropriately to level. IE: You beat the first gym, the rock gym, and can freely go to the fifteenth gym, the ice gym, and those Pokemon would now be scaled up to the same level as any other second gym.
Actually that is a really good idea, it adds more to the surprise factor of each gym. Your first gym would have pokemon of that level and pokemon obtainable at that level, this then allows for many different ways to go through it, and it would be a lot more difficult for people to ask what pokemon this gym has if not many people have done that gym type as that gym leader.
Ex. I may choose the rock gym first, many others would choose this as their first gym so i could be told that the leader has Onix Geodude and Nosepass (first three that popped into my head). Or i could do it as my last gym, and not many others have ended the gym challenge with rock so it would proove a great challenge for me to receive a warning of the Golem Armaldo Aggron Magcargo and Tyranitar that the same leader has.
just realised that what i just referred to doesnt seem to be in this thread, it is in another...just not sure which one
I also really like this idea, for example if you pick a Charmander then you probably don't want to go to the rock gym first! Also liked this idea. I think the two combined would work really well! Hrm... I have to give most idea threads credit, as they lead me to interesting ideas of my own.
Don't take this as law as it just occurred to me while noshing some breakfast and listening to some music, but we could always implement a level cap once you acquire certain badges. It could also be used to add a challenging modifier to the gyms.
For example, the first gym leader could have a level cap of 10, meaning that before you acquire their badge, you cannot raise any of your Pokemon higher than that. (However, you are free to raise an unlimited number of Pokemon up to that level). Then, once you fight the gym leader, most of their Pokemon will be a level or two higher than yours, adding a challenging feel to it.
Once beaten, you gain the badge and the ability to move on the next level cap.
This would solve the issue of people over leveling their Pokemon early in the game, the difficulty issue that most people seem to think it will lack (Though trust me, I plan to make plenty of challenges for you to overcome) and the issue of (Is it really an issue or did I simply think I read about it somewhere?) players breezing through the game too quickly. It would simply be one more reason to take it slowly and enjoy the content.
Thoughts?

I pick Pokemon I like over the 'best' teams. Of course I moderate that by picking a balanced team, for example not having both Houndoom and Mightyena even though they are probably my two favourite pokemon.

Like the majority of people here I will pick Charizard. He was my first pokemon on any game and is still my first choice starter. Piplup would be my next choice however.

So my objectives...
First off I want to have fun, if I didn't think this would be fun there'd be no point getting involved.
Then more specifically build my dream team (see my sig for what that currently is, however after I've played Black & White my team may change slightly), beat the Gym Leaders and enter tournaments.

Hi all, I'm a newbie to the site. I've been playing Pokemon since it first came out all those years ago. After completeing Platinum I went back to Red and decided that I wanted to try something new, a Pokemon MMORPG. Spent a while looking for a good one and stumbled across some positive feedback for this place. Origially when I discovered it was still in progress I was disapointed but now I'm actually really pleased because it means that I'll get the chance (however small) to be involved in its development. So yeah I'm keen to help out in some small way any suggestions of threads I should read? More on me, I'm a 19 year old student at a small univeristy in Wales. I'm quite active in the online community but now in anything Pokemon related (those of you who are intersted in history might recognise the name Sun Fin as being related to Sun Wu/Tzu or maybe even Sun Ce). Amongst my other interests are soccer, Theology (my course at university-I'm a Christian), Squash, story writing and much, much more! I look forward to getting to know many of you in the next few weeks .
