Pokemon #17, Pidgeotto, Normal/Flying type, Bird pokemon.
Intro: Pidgeotto is the evolved version of Pidgey, whom a lot of people have used at least once during their trainer's career. Pidgeotto has roughly the same build as Pidgey, though it is much bigger. The claws, beak and feather colors have remained roughly the same. The biggest difference is the addition of a row of pink feathers on Pidgeotto's head, and pink and yellow alternating tail feathers.
Habitat: Although Pidgeotto is less widespread than Pidgey, it can still be found in roughly the same locations, such as open fields, forests, urban regions, etc. Since Pidgeotto claims a large territory, not many will be usually seen in one location.
Diet: The diet of Pidgeotto is much more carnivorous after its evolution. It will actively hunt all sorts of other pokemon such as Caterpie, Magikarp, Exeggcute and similar species.
Biology: Pidgeotto claims a large territory for itself in a forest or open plain. In the middle of the territory, it will build a nest. Pidgeotto is very protective of its territory. It is constantly busy flying around and patrolling the area, looking for prey and intruders. Any prey will be immobilized with its talons, incapacitated and carried back to the nest. An intruder will be viciously attacked by pecking and clawing until it is subdued or until it flees.
Wild Pidgeotto may sometimes be a menace to starting trainers. In certain regions, trainers who choose a grass-type and walk into a Pidgeotto's territory, will find themself in a pinch. Pidgeotto's predatory nature will make escaping difficult, especially since the bird will often be faster than most starters. In more extreme cases, the intervention of Pokemon Rangers was necessary to prevent starter pokemon from being devoured.
Pidgeotto is a strong flyer, that is capable of carrying a heavy load. In the wild, this means that even relatively big prey can be carried off to the nest. As a trained pokemon, this means that Pidgeotto can carry a trainer to faraway locations, and can carry other pokemon for use in a combination attack.
When captured, Pidgeotto makes for a loyal partner that hates to let down its trainer. It will go to extreme lengths to win battles. In rare cases, Pidgeotto's urge to protect its peers and family will drive it to evolve into Pidgeot without the need for battle.
Pokemon League Commission notes:
Class D. While Pidgeotto is a relatively rare, especially compared to Pidgey, no restrictions towards catching it have been implemented. Since Pidgeotto claims a large territory, many Pidgeotto in a small plot of land will often lead to conflict. To help prevent these conflicts and pokemon and human harm, catching Pidgeotto is unrestricted and even stimulated in certain areas.
