Confused about getting dream world abilities.

I've recently been trying to get my pokemon's dream world ability, but I seem to be missing something. I put him to sleep, and went to the forest, but couldn't find him. I woke him up, and went to the forest, but didn't see anything. Do I need to let him sleep a certain amount of time? I can only do this once a day. I didn't let mine sleep long enough because I'm still working on training him and such.

Can someone explain exactly what I'm supposed to do?

You have to catch/find the pokemon in the dream world. You can't retroactively give a pokemon the dream world ability.

Oh. How do I get pokemon into the dreamworld to catch?

u need to go to PGL (Pokemon Global Link) and have a Pokemon.com account, then link the account to your game and go in the Global Link Dream World, there you catch the pokemons with Dream World Ability
