I would like to pick Charmander, as he is the most powerful starter

You could get Heartgold or Soulsilver, those are pretty good. They're better than the originals in some ways.

Oh, I thought that when you said that you wouldn't know, I thought that you hadn't played Generation 2 or HG and SS.

Tis is what i concluded so far:

fire type starters>Water type starters> Grass type Starters
Even if one person steales waht you deserve, your reward will be even better than the last if you head down the right path.

Now that I have figured out that Blastoise is a sure thing on my team, I have decided to use squirtle.

I would personally pick Squirtle. He was always one of my favorites. Maybe the cool glasses did it in for him in the show. Lol. If not Squirtle, then it'll be Cyndaquil or Totodile. Cyndaquil has always been my favorite fire starter while Totodile has always been pretty amazing. The moves they learn/can learn are very effective in teams I make. :3
