It is based on the larval stage of the antlion, who spend their days in sandy pits before maturing into a winged, adult stage.

That was taken from bulbapedia. They give origins to pokemon to give you a better idea of what they're based on. Of course you can still dislike Trapinch if you want. It's your opinion.
