I like this idea, however, I think it has been stated already that you will not be able to catch legendaries. I'm sure that you can incorporate them into these quests, you just wont be able to catch them as your own.

meh, not bad. ....not really a whole lot i can say about this, as it is not so elaborate (which is not a bad thing, sometimes simple is best). im pleased you made it so you can't catch mew, and i am all for some sort of event ability of some kind....... the only thing is, this may or may not be the first time you encounter mew..... i suppose that doesn't really matter though.

no, this is one of the first quest ideas people on this site (aside from established, recognized members) that i actually kind of like. thing is, this is more for the map makers than quest designers. still..... you get my *thumbs up*

correct, this is not impossible to do (but then nothing is), it is merely far too difficult and would create alot of lag. yeah they can do this in large-scale MMO's like WoW and Runescape, but that is because they have very powerful systems, servers, money, etc. in a game like this, it is just too much to make.

however, an easier fix would be to make it so that you can see everyone, in town upon your first visit, but when you talk to them all you get are Zzz's. then everything can go from there.
also, the radio tower would only be accessible to people involved in that part of the quest (you could not reenter after you finish), that way, all the sprites for the evil organization, and anything else, can remain there at all times, but not everyone would see it. this would make for less information (i think) than having visibility, and non visibility.


but.....i digress, in the end, i am not a map editor, and therefore do not know if my assumption about this taking less space is correct or not.

teleportation to a friends house would be very convenient, but if it is decided that such an action is possible, and the developers decide they don't want people to be able to teleport around the map (to my knowledge, they don't want this), than when you leave the house you would have to teleport back to where you left from via some sort of marker system.

and yes, eventually (i don't know when), there will be a friend/guild function. i must say though, that i like the idea of setting people as rivals, but it shouldn't be able to do anything, other than make them separate on the speak bar. in other words, if you wish to speak to only your friends you could do so, or if you wish to speak only to your rivals you could do so as well.

actually, now i think about it, you should also have an optional pop-up window that gives you recent details of what friends/clan members/rivals have done, so you know if they have caught a new pokemon, beat another gym leader, or entered a tournament.

but i cannot see the rival system having any significant implementation into the game

here's the thing, the last two comments are spot on. there will be battles with both NPC's and real people, but for several reasons (including but not limited to the two already given), human characters will not be gym leaders. yes tournaments will exist, and who knows, champions could be the final person to be matched (it really depends how the tournament is set up).

also, don't be too discouraged, yes this idea was not well developed, but the fact that your trying to come up with something, and the fact that you have an opinion on what you like is a great start. my recommendation is to not try so hard, next time your hanging out with a friend, and you guys talk about something you wish was in the games, "spitball" back and forth and try to determine whether this would already have been discussed, or if you actually have a genuine new idea.

i think they had something like this in the TCG (which i loved btw.) if i remember correctly, you were to face 7 opponents at a time that were randomly selected from the game, when you beat them, you are given a break, and the game keeps a record of how many in a row you won. i think this could be implemented, but would only be made available after beating a large portion of the game, and the opponents would be randomly selected, not from every NPC, but from the gym leaders, and other high level people as well.

....actually, now i think about it, maybe not, since all the NPC's in this event would have to be modified to all be at the same level, the reason this worked in the TCG was that you didn't need to be a certain level to face anyone.

so yeah, while this could work, i think it is too much work to develop any time soon

Thinking about what you said i think i found a story. There is a stream that ends in the lake inside the grotto. Due to different circumstances there is only female magikarp there. In the beginning of this stream however is a whole bunch of male gyarados who won't go downstream and the female magikarp are too weak to swim upstream. That's when the NPC asks the trainer to catch a magikarp and train it to be a gyarados. After the trainer defeats the NPC, he tells the trainer to go upstream and catch a male gyarados so he can breed them and bring back a male magikarp to mate with the females spreading the magikarp population. Maybe if this ques is hard it can be the way to obtain waterfall. (just an idea)   


Male gyrados mating with female magikarps? Why do you have to defeat the npc? you never explained that.

It could go something like this:

You see a few people outside a cave pacing themsleves. You talk to one of the npc and he tells you a story of how much stronger the ancestors of magikarp is compared to today's and that long lived majikarps can leap high enough using splash to jump over mountains. The man later tells you he is a scientist and his crew were studying the magikarps until some thieves snuck in and stole the magikarps and while in the process they angered one of them and it evolved into a gyrados which made them flee leaving a handful of magikarps behind. Now they can't study the magikarps because the gyrados is guarding them and will not let any human or pokemon in. The npc gives you a quest that requires you to go into the cave and defeat the gyrados. And for proof, bring him the gyrados scale.

This can leave to a chain of quest. Like maybe you'll find out that an underworld organization are after all the magikarps to evolve them into gyrados to rule the sea.

If this sounds good but too short, I can make it longer.
