Changes in Development
« on: January 07, 2011, 10:38:06 AM »
Past, Present, Future
In the last few months development of both client and server has gone slow. This due to the fact that both me (Mr_Dark) and Urmel lost motivation to continue our work with the current code, because it has become a real hog and a lot of code needs to be changed in order to function in a way we want to.

We knew this was not going anywhere and we didn't want to abandon the project (because we love it ;)). That's when Urmel came with the idea of re-creating all the PU-software in a "new" programming language called Go (http://golang.org) and make everything open-source so other people can help us with the development. We feel like it will keep us motivated when other people are able to collaborate with us and help us with the code.

Go!
So yeah, this means another rewrite of the software. But on the bright side, Go makes is really easy to write applications (easier as in C++) and is just as fast. So we expect to have some early versions ready soon and because all code is open-source everyone can compile and run the client/server so basically this means Pokemon Universe is always open to be tested! ;D

But there is more! and some of you are going to cheer now. Go is 100% multi-platform so it's super easy to create a client version for Windows, Linux or yes (this one is for you Bakagringo) even MacOS!

Open-Source, Closed-Map
Because we made the code public of the client and server, this doesn't mean you'll get our worldmap. This will stay hidden deep inside PU-HQ ;) Although we have some other plans regarding mapping, but we have to discuss this internally first.

Got Interested?
If you're interested in viewing code (although it might be a bit empty now), issues or anything related. Click on the "DEVELOPMENT" button in the top menu. Here you will find a link to our project page at Google Code.

Update: Reposting because somehow the post got deleted

The pre-compiled Mac client will depend on what MacOs version Bakagringo compiles it for. Otherwise you can just compile it yourself and it will work on any version.

Ok then. I will most likely only do 64-bit editions of the client, but it should work on your system. Also, I am currently still playing around as GO is not made with Mac environment in mind AT ALL... But at least you will get to play the game. ;)

When all the coding, tiles, sprites and maps are done.
No one can go back and change a bad beginning; but anyone can start now and create a successful ending.
If a problem can be solved, no need to worry about it. If it cannot be solved what is the use of worrying?

Currently playing Pokemon XY/ORAS/Shuffle and Clash of Clans and testing out PokemonRevolutionOnline and Dragonmon Hunter....
Also, forum notification emails are not getting in my inbox... again...
