In game movies
« on: March 25, 2011, 10:37:18 AM »
Hi!  :)
I'm new here, and I didn't realize the game was incomplete until I registered.

BUT, I realized that I actually have something that I can offer to this game!
So do you know how in the games, either in the beginning of the game (without skipping it) or in various areas throughout, there are little movies? Such as the opening movie in each game (or to a lesser extent the Xtranceiver with computer characters in B/W).

I realize that I can make these and output into any, and I mean any, format required. They would not be all too different from the ones within the real games, however, I propose that there be something truly different within this MMO.
Interactions with computer characters (given that you will add any) could be viewed in a point of view, where you can see both the player's character, and the computer character.
As if there was an actual camera man in the room with the characters.

If I am making absolutely no sense, I would be more than willing to provide a rough example if you are willing to lend me a person sprite or two, or at least test characters.

The product is fairly easy to produce, however I can see a compatibility issue when it comes to people creating their own sprites... Thinking as I type, it would be possible to do this same concept from a first person point of view.

So that's my idea, I have the experience and tools to do these, and it is something that could help the story "roll along" in some places.
So yeah....

Sounds interesting to me. You can have samples in the screen shots. I don't know about the other sprites (if there are any) though.

But, do you think that since this game allows character customisation, you'll be able to make a video for every player?

Well, one possible solution is to make it like the player is watching everything, so that you don't have to include him/her, but it would indeed be better if you actually showed the player's character too.
No one can go back and change a bad beginning; but anyone can start now and create a successful ending.
If a problem can be solved, no need to worry about it. If it cannot be solved what is the use of worrying?

The player customization would indeed be a problem. Obviously though, if possible (and I am curious to see your work) this could be a pretty cool idea. I'm going to say that if it were for me, these kind of cutscenes wouldn't rely on the player, but instead on the stoyline itself and the world around.

Maybe the videos could be from the players point of view so you don't have to customize the player in the videos. Just from their eyes.
Friend DarkerSou1 on Xbox Live, tell me who you is tho.

Right, that's what I was thinking, going to first person POV.
It would make it much easier, and it is quite abit simpler.

This, I think it's impossible to really judge this without an example of what it would look like.

Hmm.. you mean a cutscene when you start the game? Or when you enter a new area or something like that?

This one really sucks, I was kind of using it as a test for 3d applications in this game, but total 3d failed.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dFt3Bt5R-MM

If you guys like it, so be it, but I can do a better one! that one is really an experiment for 3d applications, it didn't turn out too well. I was playing with some new tools, couldn't get the sky to work with stars, and I rushed, which was the biggest mistake...  :P

Ok, someone give me 6 short lines of text to put in a game opener. Like the words from white: Hopes!, Dreams!, ect., but more pertaining to the pokemon universe) I'll use the nintendo sprites and that will be my official "this is how good I can be" vid. It will not be in 3d, but 1.5d...once I get some text, you'll see what I mean.  8)

The reason I need text is because I lack creativity with words... anything visual (not pixel art or drawing wise), I can do, just not textual

So you want 6 lines to be shown when you first start the game?
I'll figure something out :)

Not bad. It was just a test, as you said, but I see where you are going with it. It's made your original post a lot clearer. And I have to say, I think it would be a pretty interesting concept.
