The problem with that is, too many sprites!
If you had to have sprites for every single type of trainer riding every pokemon, it would be a bit much...

i think that you should be able to ride pokemon like rapidash as a form of transportation

Pretty much this. Instead of bikes, you can ride a pokemon.

i agree that riding pokemon would be good but not instead of bikes because some pokemon will be unrideable (ditto or some ghost types ect).

Or make it like in Pokemon Ranger. Only some pokemon can be ridden. Therefore, you get only about a dozen pokemon, making about 144 sprites.
No one can go back and change a bad beginning; but anyone can start now and create a successful ending.
If a problem can be solved, no need to worry about it. If it cannot be solved what is the use of worrying?

lol, if following poke' sprites are considered time consuming.

I'd hate it for the person that'd have to make the riding poke' sprites
Am I a ghost or a man? Or a man-ghost offspring that come from mi father's inexplicable penetration of mi mother's ghostly woman parts? Or am I a child imitating a man's ability to change into a ghostly form in order to preserve mi appellation?

Oh, I almost forgot! Yes, you're right, there are much more than 144... since there will be character customisation, there will be much more :o

Maybe only a few Pokemon are rideable, like Ponyta, Rapidash, Arcanine, etc.
However, the Pokemon don't go much faster than bikes and get tired. They are mainly for show.

I read up to page 5; so, if this has been mentioned, forgive me.

However, the idea I had for transportation borrows from a few other games. I'm not saying that it should be a direct replica, but if it works, it works, you know? For flying, I do agree that it would detract from the overall game experience. Being able to fly between towns on the fly would make the game short, even with an abundance of content. So, instead, why not move along the lines of World of Warcraft and make it so that flying can happen between preset points. You would have to meet up with whoever was stationed at both of those points and pay to fly between them. That way, you would still have to travel everywhere on foot. It would just be more convenient for players who have already explored the land. The price would keep it from being abused, as well.
