Hidden Power
« on: August 02, 2010, 11:48:20 PM »
Can we change hidden power so it's easier to get the one we want. Back when I played Shoddy Battle sometimes we'd use Hidden Power to give a pokemon an attack type that they otherwise couldn't use. Even though it's not quite as useful to physical attackers, and has a base power of 70 (I think), it's still useful.

However it depends on IVs, and getting exactly what you want is very difficult in a game where you can't readily alter your pokemon's IVs. so can we change it to something easier, perhaps?

I believe the base power of the hidden power depends on the IVs too. So, Its not always 70.

What would you suggest for determining the type?

Power is given by x * 40 / 63 + 30. x is obtained by arranging bit 1 from the IV for each of Special Defense, Special Attack, Speed, Defense, Attack, and HP in that order. (Bit 1 is 1 if the IV is of the form 4n + 2 or 4n + 3. x is then 64 * Special Defense IV bit 1, plus 32 * Special Attack IV bit 1, etc.)

Power is always between 30 and 70, inclusive. Average power is 49.5.

Type is given by y * 15 / 63, where y is similar to x above, except constructed from bit 0. (Bit 0 is 1 if the IV is odd.) The result is looked up in the following table.

Value   Type
0   fighting
1   flying
2   poison
3   ground
4   rock
5   bug
6   ghost
7   steel
8   fire
9   water
10   grass
11   electric
12   psychic
13   ice
14   dragon
15   dark

I'm not sure what would be a better way to determine what the move is, but I'd just like it to be easier.

Would you rather have EVs decide the type and power. At least then you could control what it would be.

There will be no EV's in PU.

Is there something to replace them?
If there isn't, people might as well leave a pokemon in the daycare center and ride a bike for hours. Assuming there is a daycare center and a bike.

I read that they were replacing EVs with something. There had better be a daycare and a bike.

I hope the replacement for EVs is simpler than having to look up which pokemon gives what EVs online.

They are adding something they called talent trees. You can check the balancing forum for more details.

Maybe we could use these talent trees to control hidden power.
If not, I'm not sure how else it would be possible to make hidden power easier to manipulate.
