Ranking System.
« on: October 06, 2011, 12:20:15 PM »
I had an Idea after actually paying attention to my ranking in monotype on PO, but how about some sort of ranking system?
Here is how it works, Every one starts off at a set number, could be 0 or it could be any number the developer wants. When you battle some one, you are given a + number and a -number. If you win your points go up, if you lose they go down. The higher you get the smaller the +number gets, and hopefully the harder it gets to stay on top.
Sound good?

Sounds easily corrupted. It would place a bigger weight on competitiveness, so maybe only have it for people who have that sort of play "turned on". Kind of like PvP mode in other MMOs. This let's people choose if they wish to participate in it or not.

You make a good point. But for those of us who are competitive, this would be great. I don't know about most of you, but I like the challenge of getting on top, then staying there for as long as I can.

I agree that it is fun, I'm just saying we shouldn't force it on people. Giving people the option to choose is usually a good thing.

ok, how about this. When you challenge someone you have to check "Rated Battle". Then and only then will It be counted towards your ranking.

This could also lead to stronger opponents just hanging out in lower level areas challenging newer people just to improve their ranking.  And really who want's to start an MMO then get challenged by every high level asshole who just want's to raise their ranking?

Not a big fan of a ranking system out side of tourney play.

While I'm not a fan of ranking system out of tournaments, I don't think that it would be possible for the high level trainers to battle weaker trainers. There have been suggestions of how to stop that in the past, and if they are implemented, there should be no problem from this side.
No one can go back and change a bad beginning; but anyone can start now and create a successful ending.
If a problem can be solved, no need to worry about it. If it cannot be solved what is the use of worrying?

It does sound like a good idea, and I'm all for it actually. From Genbor's and Bing's post, an easy solution for this would to have an are like a PvP arena. It's in a controlled environment, and it wouldn't be hard to have a sorting system so you won't challenge someone who is a larger rank than you unless you want to.

Hmm I believe there was a thread like this before, where we did discuss some solutions for something like this, like Jerry said... I'll try to get a link.

While the ranking system above would not work mathematically, I think some sort of ranking system would be kinda cool.

An Arena area may be best for controlling trainer battles, but perhaps friends can battle each other anywhere.
I don't know, we'll see.

I like this idea... but it might work better like this:

I assume that tournaments will be held in an arena of some kind, yes?

Well, what will these colosseums be used for in the time between? Perhaps we could use them for ranked training battles to prepare for the next tournament? Maybe even reward twice the points for battles in the tournament?

That sound good?

Maybe put a colosseum in several cities to reduce the number of people in a single place. Or just one large tower with a LOT of floors used for battling like the battle tower but maybe more interactive so you can pick who you fight outside the tourney if desired, but still with a way to get a random match?

Sure I'm fine with that idea. Sounds like a good compromise to me.

i think it's a great idea, but in a controlled environment because take this as an example:

say you want to be higher ranked. you can easily find a friend and keep winning him/her to be higher ranked.

problem is that it would be hard to tell if you are actually doing real battles with a friend or not and just trying to get higher rank. which is why i think it would be better in a controlled environment.

POW xD
